Driver License FAQ

I have my permit, now what?

For everyone under the age of 19, the state requires a driver's ed course like the one offered here before you are eligible to get your driver's license.

I do not have my permit, can I start your course?

Yes. You can get started on the book work portion of the home study course at anytime. In fact, the subjects covered in the course will help you on the learner's permit test you will take at the Drivers License Division. We just ask for a $50 deposit for the books, the rest of tuition to be paid in full by your first behind-the-wheel training.

How long will it take?

Once you get started on our course the average student takes about 9 days to finish. This can vary depending on your availability and current enrollment.

Home much is it? Are there any extra costs?

We charge a flat rate of $300 for our home study course. There may be additional charges if you choose to take a private road test upon completion of our course, and there is a licensing fee charged by the state for the amount of $30.

What is included in the price?

Included in the $300 is; a home study packet, 4 driver training sessions (3 hours each), and a practice road test.

Note: the driver training sessions break down to 4- 3 hour sessions during which the student will observe for 1.5 hours and drive for 1.5 hours-- meeting the State of Utah's requirements of 6 hours driving/6 hours observing.

What is the private road test, why should I consider it?

A private road test is a way to circumvent the potential long lines and long waits at the Drivers License Division. Students that choose to take a private road test will be taken to a certified state tester on their final drive for their test then picked up again upon completion.

We offer this service at no extra charge but the test has their own charge of $30.

Note: occasionally there are scheduling conflicts, the above does not constitute a guarantee of service.

You may also choose to take your final road test with any state certified tester (that is not employed by Independent Driving School) upon completion of the course. Prices vary by tester/location.
